This page is under development. feedback is welcome! many lists are being prepared and will be added as they become ready.

This page provides program lists and program object files (called patches by other manufacturers) for most of the various Kurzweil 1000 series products. Each product listed in the Page Index represents a unique product but some of the products share the same programs.

Discussion of page contents

What is on this page?
Program Lists: This page contains program lists and program object downloads. The program lists will normally be a comma separated file (CSV) - a special type of text file that can be opened by a spread sheet.
Depending on what is available, the program list may include any of the following: Program number; Program Name; Program ID; Effects; Controllers. Thanks to David Brown for contributing all the lists that include Effects. It took many hours to do so.

Open or Download a csv List: If you Click on a CSV file link, you will get a dialog with options to 'Open' or 'Save Target'. If you have a spread sheet or other application that is set to automatically open CSV files, you can use the 'Open' option. If that does not work, then use the 'Save Target' option to download the file and open it with your spreadsheet application or text editor.

List contents: Some of the lists do not include all of the program numbers. Each list does however contain every unique program for that Kurzweil product series. For instance, the Pro III list only includes banks 2 and 3. Banks 1 and 2 contain the same programs just arranged differently.

Using a spreadsheet:  The CSV files can be opened by a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc. (and perhaps others) To best view the list, do these steps to recover the original spreadsheet format:
*Adjust the column widths to best view the table entries.
*Select the cells in the table including the column names.
*Set Format, Cells, Alignment, Horizontal= Left, Vertical = Top. Check the 'Word Wrap' or 'Wrap Text' option.
*Set Format, Row, Autofit (not required in Calc)

open OpenOffice dot org website (Calc is free. Click to down load)

Program Object Files: The program object files usually contain the same programs that are included in the corresponding program lists. Depending on what is available, the object files will be in one or more of the following formats:

  • OBJ  - A file with extension ".obj" - for the Atari "Object Mover". Also readable by Kurlewin.
  • MOM - A file with extension ".mom" - for the Mac "Object Mover". Also readable by Kurlewin.
  • KOF - A file with extension ".kof" - An early Kurzweil Object File format. Readable by Kurlewin.
  • KUR - A file with extension "kur" - for the Windows "Kurlewin" librarian.
  • MID -  A file with extension "mid" is a MIDI dump from the Kurzweil module or keyboard.

Downloading and using an Object file: To download a file, right click the link. You will get a dialog box with an option to 'Save Target'. Select that option to download the file.  To use the file you will need one of the librarians to open the file and load the programs into you Kurzweil Expander or Keyboard. See Software

Why would you want to view/download program lists or download the programs provided?
1. The lists provided for download can be opened by a spread sheet like Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc. Once in the spread sheet, the list can be sorted by any of the columns (Program Name, Program Number, ID, ETC.). These sorted lists are not available anywhere else! Print them and add them to your reference library.
2. This is the only place you will find some of these lists. The manuals include some of the lists but not all! Even when the list is in one of the manuals, you may want a separate file version.
3.
Some models shipped with RAM programs for demonstration purposes that were lost the first time the unit was hard reset. Here you can find lists and download files for those programs you may want to recover.
4. You may be interested in purchasing a different product (or upgrading) and want to know what programs the new unit will have.
5. Some of the programs are rather flat sounding unless the effects are used.  The lists with effects and controllers included will help power sequencers and musicians get the most from their Kurzweil.
6
. Just for fun! You could download the programs from the HX expander and link the programs to samples in your different expander to create some interesting new sounds. For example if you apply one of the trombone programs from the HX to the trumpet sample in your Pro 1, you will have a different way to play that trumpet and perhaps have effects to make it sound like a high timbre trombone. So, view the lists, download the objects and have some fun. Apply the 'X Program' to the sax sample - what the heck!

Program numbers versus program IDs:
Program lists in this page usually show the Midi program numbers for the listed programs and may not list the program IDs.  Conversely, the objects in the download files will have the programs identified by the ID location that the program used when saved to the particular file. If you download files, you will want to store the programs (or other objects in the file) in empty RAM locations (IDs) in your Kurzweil module or keyboard. Then you will have to edit one of the program lists in your unit to add the new program.  If you need help on this, download a manual and read about program lists and/or read the FAQ page topic
What is the difference between program numbers, program IDs and program lists?

Contents are added as they become available and if appropriate.  Before you jump in and start downloading lists and object files (files that contain the programs) you may want to read the Product Evolution page. That page provides a background about how the products evolved and could help you with understanding what is on this page - and why you may want to view program lists or download the programs from older products. In short, some of the older products (early OS revisions) had programs that were removed (or changed) as the products evolved and music trends changed. This page is where you might find them and download them.

The Kurzweil 1000 PX Expander

This is one of the first modules introduced. Some of the programs in this unit were removed in later upgrades. The upgrade to add the 'A' Block samples and revision 5 OS removed some programs many users really liked.  If you are interested, compare this list with the Pro I list or the list for be 'A' block upgrades. For instance, ' Dynam Jazz Organ' included in the first release was eliminated in the upgrades and not included in the Pro 1 module.

Revision 1 ... 4 Programs  (Final lists not ready at this time)

Download of ROM programs:  Rev 1 ROM Program Objects.KUR (Kurlewin)    PXBLOCK.OBJ (Atari or Kurlewin)       (file help)
These are the ROM programs that shipped with the early PX module (revision 1 OS). They were in ID locations 1 to 63 and 128 to 224. Many of the programs were eliminated or modified in the upgrade to the 'A' Block and/or 'B' Block to make room for programs that used the new samples.

List of ROM programs: This list is in K1000ProgRef.PDF manual.     (lists help)

Download of RAM programs:   Rev 1 RAM Program objects.KUR (Kurlewin)       (file help)
These are the RAM programs that shipped with the early PX module (revision 1 OS). They were in ID locations 64 to 127 (not sure which Midi Program numbers they were assigned - if any). They were deleted the first time a user did a hard reset so are hard to locate.  Here they are in Kurlewin format. You will have change the IDs to high numbers (255 down) if you load these into a revision 5 OS RAM.

List of RAM Programs: (list TBD)     (lists help)
These programs were supplied with the original PX module (they were in the RAM area so they were deleted on the first hard reset).

Other programs supplied by Kurzweil but never included in the PX. Download and list TBD

The demo song included with the unit (In RAM, and deleted to make room)  download link and file TBD
