FILE: KURLEDL.EXE (479Kb) SHAREWARE: A donation of $20 will be appreciated! Pay only if you are completly happy with Kurle. CONTENTS: K1000/1200/.. MS-DOS Librarian Editor AUTHOR: Dennis Spanogle, At Work Software EQUIPMENT: Kurzweil K1000/1200 etc, PC w/640Kb Mem, 1Mb+ Disk. MIDI i/o NEEDS: DOS 3.3+ or Windows 95/98 (DOS WINDOW) Kurle will run in a Windows XP window but only file operations are supported since most DOS Midi Cards can not be configured in Windows XP. Download time at 14.4baud is approx 8 min. IMPORTANT: See notes at the bottom on using Kurle in Windows 95, 98 2000 etc. This self extracting file contains At Work Software's Editor Librarian for Kurzweil K1000, 1200, pro, etc. series of keyboards and expanders. The program is for IBM compatible PCs running MS-DOS but also works in Windows 95 or 98 if they are configured right. (See Below) Details about Kurle can be found in info_ord.txt in this directory. To set-up the download on your system: - Download the file kurledl.exe in this directory to an empty directory on your system hard drive (i.e. c:\temp). - Run the file kurledl.exe to extract and install the files into subdirectory c:\kurle ( you can replace c:\ with another desired drive or directory ) IMPORTANT: The extraction creates the folder Kurle. It puts all program files in the Kurle folder. It creates a sub folder Kurle\Patches which contains many Patches donated by Kurzweil - See info_ord.txt in download section of web page for MIDI interface information. - Execute the program file kurle.exe in MS-DOS command mode (or a Windows 95 DOS Window). Windows 98 may require you boot to a command prompt or set the properties of kurle.exe to run in DOS MODE (not a window) - see below. - The manual is in file kurle.doc (MS-Word 2000 document). - readme.txt (a text file) has IMPORTANT information not in the manual. It contains information on configuring KURLE for MIDI CARDS (revision 4.3.0) and MANY new features since the manual was written. - Patches are found in the directory ..kurle\Patches\.. (see the file SndsInfo.txt in that folder - what they are and how to use the patches.) - Kurle requires an ISA Roland compatible MPU (MQX32 etc.) or Sound Blaster card with Midi cable adapter. PCI Cards will not work! IMPORANT: Many users (including me) OFTEN can not get Kurle to work in a DOS window in windows 98 - or windows 95. I am not sure why this is! It may have something to do with how Windows allows (or does not allow) DOS programs to use and or share the interrupts and I/O addresses. Before you give up, try Kurle after a straight boot to a DOS prompt! This will almost always solve the problem assuming you have Kurle configured correctly (MIDI Interface, I/O addresses IRQs and all that stuff.) So, How do you boot to a DOS prompt. One way is to boot to windows, then Click 'Start' and select 'Shut Down' then select 'Restart in MS DOS Mode' There are other ways for pc nerds. HINT: You can use Device Manager to lean the IRQ, I/O address etc of your ISA MIDI Card or ISA Soundblaster Card. You will need these when you configure Kurle. Click My Computer, Control Panel, System then select the Device Manager Tab. Select your Sound Video Game Controller device, select properties then resources. If you use the Midiator 101 serial MIDI interface just know which Serial Port you plug it into. (1 or 2) and follow the instructions for configuring for that interface.
